The Non-League Ranking is an independent project with no affiliation to any football club, league, or governing body. It exists purely out of a love for non-league football and a desire to bring a more objective, data-driven perspective to how clubs across Steps 1 to 4 of the English non-league pyramid are compared.
The ranking is calculated using the ELO rating system — the same approach used in chess and international football — adapted specifically for the structure and characteristics of the non-league game. Every result in the League, FA Cup, and FA Trophy counts.
Rankings are updated monthly, as soon as the previous month's results have been confirmed and processed. The live ranking reflects the latest ELO calculations and updates continuously as new results come in.
